(GIRLS) Walnut Grove's ball movement key to big win over Carson Graham

WALNUT GROVE VS CARSON GRAHAM

Written by Larry Donohoe

This game could have been billed as the David vs Goliath game of the ‘No Regrets’ Girls Tournament.  The young and upcoming Carson Graham Eagles took on the highly touted, #4 ranked AAAA Walnut Grove Gators.

Sara Kimiaeimehr opened the scoring for the Eagles going one for two from the charity stripe.  Walnut Grove answers back quickly with 8 straight points, scoring mostly in transition.  The inexperienced Eagles had problems with the Gator’s intense defense and well polished, balanced offense.  All five starters for Walnut Grove contributed to the scoresheet in the first. Walnut Grove was up 20-2 after one.

A steal and breakaway lay-up by Carson Graham’s #2, Tessa Black, opened up the second quarter.  This is also a young Walnut Grove team with all nine players on the roster in grade 9, 10 or 11.  The Gator’s methodically ran their offense to perfection, often running the shot clock down to under five seconds. They scored consistently and often.  Sophia Wisotzki and Fania Taylor of the Gators were doing most of the offensive damage.  We have to give the under-gunned Eagles credit as they continued to work hard but Walnut Grove is just better!  Halftime score Walnut Grove 38 – Carson Graham 9.

The Eagles open the second half with three offensive rebounds and finally a put back by Kimiaeimehr.  Walnut Grove started as they left off, rattling off nine consecutive points in the third.

More of the same throughout the third and fourth for the Gators as they took the opportunity to polish their sets.  For all of you young players out there, “ball movement is the key to any offensive team’s success”.  Wisotzki and the Gators were the epitome of that today.

Final Score Walnut Grove 76 – Carson Graham 25.
