The Carson Graham Sr. Girls basketball program is back in the spotlight after many years away. Alumni and coaches Karyn Nelson and Kolbi Roper have the Eagles fired up and ready to go versus their crosstown North Vancouver rivals, the Windsor Wolves.
Both teams come out tentative as these two teams are a bit nervous after the pregame video, team introductions, and big crowd. Windsor comes out flying and scores the first 4 points of the game. Carson Graham answers back with 4 of their own led by Rebecca Day- a name l am sure you will hear a lot today. Stifling defense by the Carson Graham Eagles allowed the Wolves to score only 5 points the rest of the half, led by the aforementioned Rebecca Day who had numerous steals and baskets leading the way. The Eagles are up 23-9 at the break.
Windsor’s Sturm broke the seal and scoring drought by scoring the first points of the second half. That led to the Wolves starting to score at a better pace in the third, going toe to toe with the Eagles 11-11 in the quarter. The Wolves were led by Pippa Sturm and Katie Hoh. Score is 34-20 Eagles after Q3.
Pippa Sturm was the high scorer for the Wolves with 12 pts. The Eagles Lily Moody had success from behind the arc and contributed 12 points on the day. Rebecca Day continued to lead the Eagles defensively with 10 steals and 23 points leading to Player of the Game honours.
Final score 49-29 Carson Graham.
This sets up a Nelson vs Nelson semi-final match at 2:00 pm at Handsworth: Dad coaching Handsworth Girls vs daughter coaching the Carson Graham Girls. There will be lots to talk about at Christmas dinner!
