Dover Bay Dolphins Roll Into the No Regrets Boys Final After Statement Win
Argyle Sr Boys vs Dover Bay
December 12, 2025
In a highly anticipated matchup with the hometown Argyle Pipers taking on the visiting Dover Bay Dolphins, this semi-final is one we’ve been looking forward to. The matchup is intriguing: the Dolphins have very skilled guards who can manage their offense and score with ease, while the Pipers bring incredible size and athleticism. On top of that, Argyle is ranked 5th in 3A and Dover Bay is ranked 2nd in 4A. Like I said—an intriguing matchup.
Dover Bay has come quickly out of the gates, starting the game on a 9–0 run over the first few minutes. Coming off a Pipers turnover at half court, #13 for the Dolphins, Schmidt, had the lane to himself and made no mistake throwing down an absolute hammer dunk! Argyle is still searching for their rhythm in the early parts of this game. They are starting to find open looks—they just need to knock a few down to make sure the Dolphins don’t extend this lead too much, too early.
End of first quarter: Dolphins 23 – Pipers 7.
Argyle is going to look to switch up the momentum to start the second, and that likely means slowing the game down a notch and bringing it to the pace they prefer to play at. The Dolphins have been running and looking for fast-break opportunities—and those opportunities are turning into easy points. A few minutes into the second quarter, the Dolphins extend their lead to 21. We’re now at four dunk attempts for Schmidt—and on the fourth one, he made sure it was a guaranteed make.
Argyle’s #1, Maydan, is using his length and athleticism to create opportunities in 1-on-1 situations, including a nice mid-range turnaround jumper. Dover Bay is dropping back into a 2–3 zone D, trying to entice Argyle to make the pass into Maydan in the high post. When it connects, it opens up opportunities against the zone—but it’s a pass that requires precision.
Halftime score: Dolphins 52 – Pipers 23.
Halftime Fact: Karn Dillon, one of the referees for tonight’s game, refereed a matchup back in 1987 where my Dad, Digby Leigh, and Ken Sherk were coaching Sentinel! What a community the BC basketball world creates.
Argyle is finding some open looks against the Dolphins’ 2–3 zone, both from the perimeter and inside, to open up the second half. It’s been a physical matchup between two sizable teams. #11 for the Dolphins, Linder, is really in control of the game. He’s hitting shots when the defense gives them to him, but also more than happy to make the pass to the open teammate. Speaking of which—in transition he laid the ball off the backboard perfectly for Schmidt to grab and finish with an explosive dunk!
The Dolphins have looked really solid offensively as a team—they’ve limited turnovers, made smart plays, and shot the deep ball efficiently. Not many teams in the province would be able to put up a fight against this version of Dover Bay.
End of third quarter: Dolphins 84 – Pipers 41.
This game may be out of reach for the Pipers, but they continue to compete and take advantage of the opportunity to play against one of the best teams in the province. #1 Maydan just earned himself a 3-point play after a tough finish inside while taking contact from his defender. Argyle put together a solid run to start the fourth quarter, as both teams looked to their benches to get some minutes late in the game.
In the end, Dover Bay played a very solid semi-final, never really giving Argyle a chance to climb back in after setting the pace early and then breaking things open in the second quarter. The Dolphins now earn themselves a spot in the final tomorrow evening at Handsworth at 6pm, where they’ll take on the Collingwood Cavaliers. An exciting matchup for the 2025 No Regrets Boys Tournament Final!
Final Score: Dolphins 95 – Pipers 57.
