Girls: Argyle vs. Carson

Written by Sandy Therrien

Two strong North Shore teams met today at Handsworth to fight for third place in the Girls' Division.

The game started off with solid defence by both teams and no one could get numbers up on the scoreboard. Finally, a great steal by Carson's #2 lead to a basket by #25. A couple of 3-pointers by Argyle's #8 moves them ahead on the scoreboard. A great fight by both teams- you can feel the energy in the gym! First period ends 13-12 for Argyle.

Number 13 starts things off for Carson in the second quarter. Again, strong defence from both teams with some nice steals from Carson's #2. Turnovers and blocks and both teams are being kept at bay. A nice 3-pointer from Carson's #34 and a couple of great baskets from Argyle 's #9 and things are off again.  Argyle slowly moves ahead. At the end of the second quarter Argyle leads 27 to 22.

Number 10 starts things up for Argyle in the third quarter. Number 3 from Carson makes three baskets in a row and Carson is ahead. The score goes back and forth and Carson's #34 sinks a 3-pointer in the last seconds of the third quarter to end it 41-40 for Carson.

Final quarter and both teams are fighting hard and this is anybody's game. A three from Argyle's #8 ties it.  A couple of baskets from Argyle's  #11 and #7 and Argyle is ahead by one point with 4 minutes remaining. Another two baskets by Argyle's #11 and they are moving ahead. Carson's #34 ties it with one minute left.  The fourth quarter ends and we are into overtime.

Solid baskets from Argyle put them ahead early in overtime but they get into foul trouble and Carson ties it with one minute left. We are into a second overtime!

Two successful free throws for Carson put them ahead but it is back and forth. Now with less than a minute left Argyle is up by four. Argyle wins it 72 to 67.  A very hard fought game by both teams.
